ROCK HOPS: a beer & music festival celebrating grass roots Americana, music and craft beer.
Americana grass roots - that's what ROCK HOPS is all about. American Craft Beer and American Rock & Roll. They are a part of our culture and Rock Hops celebrates the best of both, together in one place at one time.
Rock Hops is also an afternoon and evening music jam. The areas finest blues and jam bands will fill the air with an amazing vibe. This incredible day of music and beer will be capped off by a headlining performance of the world’s quintessential Grateful Dead band, Dark Star Orchestra.
The United States is the birthplace of the craft beer industry, an industry that has exploded over the past decade. Attendees will be able to purchase wonderful, unique and hard to find American craft beers in Rock Hops’ beer gardens. Additionally a Connoisseur VIP package is available that includes a unique chance to participate in an afternoon craft beer tasting session that will highlight a very select sampling, approximately 30, of the small, independent craft breweries and the incredible beers they create.
Rock: Headliner, Dark Star Orchestra:
Performing to critical acclaim worldwide for over 13 years and more than 1800 shows, Dark Star Orchestra continues the Grateful Dead concert experience. Dark Star Orchestra shows are built off the extensive catalog of the Grateful Dead. On any given night the band will perform a show based on a set list from the Grateful Dead's 30 years of extensive touring or use the catalog of original songs and often played covers to create a unique set list for the show. This allows music fans both young and old to share in the experience. Dark Star Orchestra presents its critically acclaimed live show at esteemed venues from coast to coast and internationally. Grateful Dead classics are performed in the same way that an orchestra interprets music of classical composers. The Dead's spirit is derived and channeled as the players capture the excitement and innovation of the original performances and compositions.
Touring nationwide for nearly 15 years to the tune of over 2000 shows since forming, the band's determined commitment to "raising the Dead" has drawn national media attention.
Recreating iconic Dead’s shows, song for song, note for note, close your eyes and you will be transported back to the shows you remember. Dark Star Orchestra could dip into any incarnation of the dead at any of their shows, allowing fans to experience shows that happened long before they were born.
Primary Support: Bernie Worrell:
How many artists can say they were in on the ground floor of an honest-to-Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame supergroup, Parliament Funkadlic, all while inventing a completely original and uncanny sound and, in the ensuing years, building a legendary reputation as one of the most versatile hired guns in the music business? These days the terms "living legend" or "funk icon" really don't come close to doing him justice. "Funk iconoclast" is probably more apt, considering the breadth of Worrell's contributions to seminal albums outside the P-Funk canon―including Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense" and Public Image Ltd's Album, to name two of the more monolithic examples. Keith Richards, Yoko Ono, Bootsy Collins, Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker, Mos Def, Sly & Robbie, Deee-Lite, Bill Laswell and many more have recruited him in the studio and on tour.
Support: Citizen’s Band Radio, Quimby Mountain Band, Lucid
